Are you ready for a back to school freebie? Pete the Cat is one of my favorites for our little learners, and you have to love how he rocks his school shoes!
I was inspired by Rubber Boots and Elf Shoes (Click here to see her post) to create a class book using Pete and his rocking school shoes, but I wanted to integrate some technology. I loved the idea of a "Guess Who" book using pictures of students in their school shoes. Most younger students start back to school with new shoes (because they've outgrown them from the year before!), so this is a fun and engaging way for students to get to know each other, publish their first class book, and integrate technology! Here's what you'll need:
Click here or here for the free images of "I Love My School Shoes" from my Teachers Pay Teachers store and Teachers Notebook store.Click here for the editable .epub book (It MUST be opened with the book creator app on the iPad. When in dropbox, click on the square with the arrow point up–open in–book creator. If you try to open it with the iBooks, Nook, or Kindle app, you will not be able to edit it, and you will just have blank pages!)
The pages I created are meant to be used with the book creator app so that your class may publish an ebook in iBooks, on a Nook, Kindle, or YouTube. They are NOT meant to be printed. That would be a lot of ink! I included the image files in case you need to add more pages to your .epub book.
This book makes a great addition to your digital classroom library so students can read about themselves and each other! I made a page using my 3 year old son as an example:
My sweet boy is autistic and he is just learning how to talk, so I did most of the talking for him. I wanted to include his voice though, so you can hear him repeat words he knows how to say. This is also a great way to differentiate for your special needs students or students who don't speak a lot of English.
Click here for a step by step lesson plan published on graphite.
Here are some standards that are addressed by creating this book with your class:
RF.K.4 Read emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding.
W.K.3 Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to narrate a single event or several loosely linked events, tell about the events in the order in which they occurred, and provide a reaction to what happened.
W.K.6 With guidance and support from adults, explore a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers.
Enjoy your book!
So Cute!
